88%… historic turnout in Turkish elections

May 14, 2023

And state media in Turkey said the voting rate stood at 87.7% of the total number of people eligible to vote, estimated at around 64 million.

These data are still preliminary, pending the final results to be announced by the Turkish Supreme Election Commission.

Voter turnout in these elections was expected to reach huge levels, for several reasons, including the massive mobilization campaigns carried out by the parties to motivate citizens to participate.

On election day, polling stations across Turkey were packed with participants, to the point that long queues were seen at some stations.

Various age groups, from young men to the elderly, and even patients and determined individuals participated in large numbers.

And if this percentage is confirmed, it will be among the highest percentages in the history of Turkish elections, although these elections generally see a high turnout.

The general turnout in Turkish elections is around 81%.
