The third candidate in the Turkish elections reveals the purpose of his candidacy

– Published on:

Interest in the third presidential candidate, Sinan Ogan, is much less.

The fourth presidential candidate, Muharram Ince, had withdrawn from the previous Thursday, and Ince, who is the leader of the ‘Country’ party, said he had made up his mind because he could no longer bear the accusations that were stalking him. . , like dispersing the voices of the opposition.

And Ogan remained in the competition, which said in press releases during his vote in Ankara that he was calling on Turkish citizens to vote.

He expressed his hope that the voting process would take place in peace and security.

However, what has stood out in his recent conversations is his assertion that his current goal is not to decide elections in the first round, but to push the country into a second round.

In response to a question about his plan in the event of a second round of elections, he replied that his alliance would discuss the issue with other parties, stressing that the issue was related to principles and not to gains such as ministries.

But observers believe he is really looking to make gains in return for supporting any candidate.

In the second round, he can negotiate with other candidates to gain his support in exchange for political gains such as ministerial posts.

And if no candidate obtains more than 50% of the votes in this round, Turkey will go to a second round on May 28.

“I will not retire”

Ogan said before the election that neither Erdogan nor Kemal Kilicdaroglu should expect him to drop out of the race.

He was not very popular in Turkey, and it is surprising that he managed to collect 100,000 signatures last March, the number required to stand in the presidential elections.

He entered politics in 2011, when he stood in the legislative elections and won these elections on behalf of the national movement.

Ogan, 56, was a member of the Turkish parliament for the nationalist movement before parting ways, due to differences of opinion with the leader of the movement.

Ogan represents the “ancestral alliance”, which is branded as ultra-nationalist and takes anti-foreign stances, and the party has very limited support.

Turkish media say he is an academic of Azerbaijani origin.

Opinion polls agree that Ogan will score very low:

2.3%, according to the “Europo” center. 2%, according to the Aksoy Foundation. 2.8%, according to the polling center ORC.
