The International Criminal Court has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of committing a war crime during the “illegal deportation” of thousands of Ukrainian children in the context of the conflict between Moscow and Kiev. These are accusations denied by Moscow.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the International Criminal Court ruling “historic” and US President Joe Biden “justified” it, but Moscow considers it “null and void” because Russia is not member of the International Criminal Court, and therefore does not recognize the court’s jurisdiction, according to the Kremlin.

A few days after announcing the issuance of the arrest warrant against Putin, Moscow, in turn, opened a criminal investigation against Karim Khan and three judges of the court.

According to this Russian investigation, Khan is accused of having “launched criminal proceedings against a person known to be innocent” and “prepared an attack against a representative of a foreign country”.

Khan’s photo appears in the database of the Russian Interior Ministry on Friday.

Obama banned from entering Russia

In a related context, Russia announced on Friday that it had banned the entry of 500 Americans into its territory, including former President Barack Obama and comedian Stephen Colbert.

The list, which was released by the Russian Foreign Ministry, did not specify the reason for banning everyone named on the list, but said the reasons include spreading fear of Russia. , supplying arms to Ukraine and “direct involvement in the persecution of opponents in the aftermath of the so-called ‘Capitol Riot,'” according to the Associated Press.

The ban affects 45 members of the US House of Representatives and former US ambassadors to Russia, Jon Tefft and Jon Huntsman.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also added that it had denied a US request for consular access to Ivan Gershkovich, the Wall Street Journal reporter who was arrested in late March and charged with espionage.

She said it came in response to Washington’s refusal to grant entry visas to Russian journalists to cover Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to the United Nations last month.
