NATO is optimistic about the prospects of training Ukrainian military pilots to fly US F-16 fighters. EU diplomat Josep Borrell said several NATO member countries have started training Ukrainian pilots.
“I am happy that pilot training for the F-16 has started in some countries,” said RIA Novosti quoting Borrell.
He said training sessions with pilots have started in “a number of countries”, and cited Poland as an example.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that at Zelenskyy’s request, the US and its allies would start training Ukrainian pilots and provide F-16 fighters to bolster the Ukrainian Air Force.
Among NATO allies, there is no consensus on supplying F-16s to the Kyiv regime. So, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lekke Rasmussen noted that it was too early to make a decision on the transfer of F-16s to Ukraine, and the topic of training Ukrainian pilots on these fighters is premature. .
Borrell believes the supply of the F-16 will be the same as with the tanks, the supply decision which has long been blocked by Germany, but “ultimately the decision to start the supplies necessary for the ‘Ukraine is coming’.
