The Kremlin called a very serious situation with the transfer of the icon “Trinity” Rublev

– Published on:

The situation with the state of the Trinity icon of Andrey Rublev is very serious and requires the involvement of specialists who have declared the need to restore the work. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“We are going to speak with experts, discuss this topic. The subject is very serious and, of course, we will find out the details,” Peskov told reporters.

The Trinity icon, painted in the 15th century, was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church for humanitarian reasons. Until 1929, the icon was in the Trinity Cathedral of the Sergius Trinity Lavra, and then entered the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery. It was expected to go on display in the Savior Cathedral on June 4, but it was feared the work would require restoration.
