Shoigu arrived in Minsk on Thursday. During the visit, documents were signed that determine the procedure for storing nuclear weapons in a special storage facility on the territory of the republic. From Belarus, the agreement was signed by Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin.
When signing the documents, Shoigu stressed that Russia does not transfer nuclear weapons to the Republic of Belarus. The control and the decision to use it rests with Moscow.
The head of the Russian military department also noted that in the future additional measures may be taken to ensure the security of the Union State.
Recall that on March 25, President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia, at the request of Minsk, will deploy its tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus. Putin also recalled that the United States has maintained its nuclear weapons on the territory of allied countries for decades. The construction of a special storage facility in Belarus will be completed on July 1.
