How did Erdogan and Kilicdaroglu mobilize their supporters before the decisive battle?

May 27, 2023

In the first round, Erdogan obtained 49.52% of the vote, against 44.88% for Oglu, the candidate of the opposition coalition which includes six parties.

And while Erdogan has a good chance of winning the second round after failing to claim an outright victory in the first round two weeks ago, his rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu is adopting new promises to try to change the course of the electoral race.

Erdogan appeals to “every citizen”

It came in a tweet posted by the Turkish President today, Saturday, on his official Twitter account:

I appeal to everyone in my country: tomorrow, let’s go to the polls together for Turkey’s great victory. Let us reflect the will that was expressed in Parliament during the elections of 14 May, much more vigorously this time.

Kilicdaroglu confirms promises

Before the start of the election silence, Kılıçdaroğlu posted several videos on his official Twitter account, in which he revealed new promises:

Once in power, I will provide a final solution to your credit card debt. Our Treasury will take care of your accumulated debts due to the economic depression caused by Erdogan. Most of my promises don’t need laws, because most of them are administrative decisions. I face a blackout, I can’t text journalists announcing our program… It’s against democracy and against the rules. The fact is fear, they are mobilizing all state institutions so as not to lose power. This election is like a choice to be or not, it’s a referendum.
