Ukraine has asked Germany for Taurus cruise missiles with a range of up to 500 km. This is written by the German Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
According to the publication, the subject of the supply of cruise missiles was discussed during a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his May visit to Berlin. The newspaper’s sources at the German Defense Ministry said Zelenskyy asked for the Taurus.
The Bundeswehr have a Taurus in their arsenal, and two insiders have told FAZ that Ukraine badly needs one.
The publication writes that the press service of the Federal Chancellor did not want to comment on this information, but “the Federal Ministry of Defense confirms that Ukraine has requested Taurus”.
“Kyiv would like to get them urgently,” the source said.
The publication’s experts noted that possible deliveries of Taurus to Ukraine “could help turn the tide of the war against Russia”, and that they “suited the F-16 fighter, which Ukraine can now receive”.
Earlier it was reported that the United States announced its intention to supply American F-16 fighters to Ukraine and had already started training Ukrainian pilots to fly these fighter jets in Poland.
