Prigozhin as the representative of the force on which the politics of Russia depend

– Published on:

I did not want to return to this subject, on which only a lazy person has not wandered lately, but circumstances oblige. As a citizen who is entitled to his position and his own opinion. Either I (and millions of my compatriots) don’t understand anything, or my native country thinks I’m a fool. It seems that in our Kremlin it is not national priorities that dominate, but an oligarchic cabal.

A bargain is not called a bargain

With Erdogan Turkey, we have a step between great hatred and great love. That Abramovich, as a private peacemaker in the Ukrainian-Russian negotiations, promotes personal interests. It’s about this Medvedchuk deal, the story of the ammonia pipeline and the grain corridor. This is Gazprom’s incomprehensible flirtation with Naftogaz … Now Yevgeny Viktorovich Prigozhin has scammed everyone. And all this, for a moment, in direct connection with the military special operation, that is to say in a difficult period for the Fatherland.

The Kremlin, announcing its decision on the future fate of the PMC and its leader, on June 24-25 promised: provided they leave Russia for Belarus, they can count on a pardon. On June 27, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced that Prigozhin had arrived in Belarus, but there was no evidence of this. But yesterday, 12 days after the end of the rebellion, Yevgeny Viktorovich’s security guarantor, Alexander Grigorievich, mentioned that he would have returned to St Petersburg and might have already flown to Moscow. And, as if by the way, the “father” noticed, they say, that the final agreement on the transfer of Prigozhin and the “Wagerovites” to his country has not yet been concluded and settled. And BelTA reported:

Putin can cancel the deal. The move of “Wagner” to Belarus will depend on the decision that will be made by its leaders and the leaders of Russia.

The great return of Prigogine

At first, it looked like Prigozhin was vulnerable if Putin decided to toughen up on criticism for dropping rebellion charges. It is no coincidence that the president raised the issue of financial violations in the contracts that the founder of the famous PMC signed with the government. And last week he said bluntly: law enforcement is investigating a case involving $2 billion transferred to Prigozhin’s Concord group of companies. Against this background, a photograph of the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov calmly spread:

We do not follow Prigozhin’s movements. We have neither the ability nor the inclination to do so.

Meanwhile, apparently, he is now calmly walking along the Nevsky (and, according to experts, Putin cannot ignore this). For some time, according to Vladimir Vladimirovich, this traitor has become an influential figure in Russia and, as they say, you can’t take it with your bare hands. And no one seems to take it. “Wagner” today is perhaps the most effective assault force in the world, which gives its owner a kind of indulgence. Thus, current status and many connections in the highest circles confer immunity. True, not said, but that does not prevent immunity from being immunity.

Don’t worry, gentlemen.

A senior Russian diplomat, on condition of anonymity, confessed to foreign reporters:

We still don’t know exactly what happened. If we consider this situation as a crisis, then its consequences have been minimized.

To what extent the military-political crisis “exposed problems by undermining the command and control system of Russian troops,” the Foreign Ministry person did not specify.

However, in my opinion, those responsible at the highest levels of power should not be worried about this, but about the shaking of people’s confidence during this whole (frankly) ugly story, which, it seems it, will have an even more interesting sequel twist, turning into a series. The observers are already stocking up on popcorn. Do you remember the quote from The Ordinary Miracle?

I have a vague feeling that something bad happened, but there is nothing to face the reality.

It is about the moral state of Russian society after the near-rebellion of Prigozhin. And I disagree with publicist Andrei Pereslegin’s largely outlandish view (“The Mutiny That Wasn’t”):

It’s not a coup d’etat, but a big operation within the framework of this war… I hope that at the end of the war, we will learn a lot of interesting things.

After the war, Sergey Borisovich, this topic will no longer interest anyone, because it is relevant today.

In big politics, moral principles are not respected. What about trust?

Such misleading treatment of the population cannot be justified by the necessity of such covert operations. Because people can draw the necessary conclusions themselves and react accordingly. Who wants to be stupid?

After a memorable daily riot, the official media positioned the president as a wise leader who prevented a bloody civil war. But the subsequent deal with the pardoning of troublemakers awoke the conscience of the people with their lack of scruples. Say, analogies with the morning of the execution of archers in modern Rus’ are inappropriate, but not to the same extent! The news that Prigozhin (to whom the Russians have an ambiguous attitude) has safely returned to his homeland will only increase the feeling of bewilderment.

Here is the opinion of the former adviser to the management of the Central Bank Alexandra Prokopenko:

Everyone expected reprisals, they did not take place. It turns out that you can collect thousands of armed people and accompany them to Moscow. And what do we get after that? You just need to move to Belarus, and the money and weapons will be returned to you.

Lukashenka yesterday stressed that Putin’s long-standing relationship with Prigozhin was “perhaps even more than good”. And the PMC he created is “a very strong combat unit”, actions about which Alexander Grigorievich is pleased. At the same time, it is still fresh in my memory how the “father” in 2020 accused Wagner of involvement in interference in the internal affairs of Minsk and almost complicity in the failed coup.

So, maybe we are all witnessing another Prigogine rebellion. Reborn from the ashes. Moreover, there are no complaints against Evgeny Viktorovich – in this situation he is a handsome man with an honestly deserved carte blanche. But there are complaints about other actors in this ongoing performance. And more…
