Lebanon warns Israel of potential large-scale war amid rising tensions

January 7, 2024

Beirut, Lebanon: Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has issued a stern warning to Israel regarding the escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly concerning the situation in the Gaza Strip. In a recent statement, Mikati demanded the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and cautioned against the risks of further escalation, potentially leading to a full-scale war.

During a meeting with the European Union’s High Representative Josep Borrell, Mikati expressed Lebanon’s commitment to achieving stability in the region. Mikati said that Lebanon is striving for stability and establishing the necessary contacts in this regard because any large-scale bombings of southern Lebanon will lead the region to a massive explosion.

This warning comes in the wake of recent Israeli strikes on Lebanon, to which Hezbollah responded by targeting a Tsahal military base. The situation remains tense, with the international community closely monitoring developments.

The Lebanese Prime Minister’s remarks underscore the fragile peace in the region and the potential for a rapid deterioration into widespread conflict. The international community, particularly the European Union and the United States, is expected to play a crucial role in mediating and de-escalating the situation.
