Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Europe’s double standards: Amsterdam Police arrest protesters chanting ‘Free, free Palestine’

In Amsterdam, police detained more than 50 people at a pro-Palestinian demonstration that was banned after Israelis who had come to support their football club at a Europa League match were attacked.

The protesters yelled slogans including ‘Free, free Palestine.’

Police said another 340 people were evacuated from Dam Square in the city center. They had begun arresting demonstrators who refused to leave the square, where an unauthorized demonstration had occurred. The protesters had tried to obtain permission to hold a demonstration on the morning of November 10, but the court upheld the municipality’s ban on such events.

During the hearing, Amsterdam’s senior police officer Olivier Dutilh said more anti-Semitic incidents had taken place overnight, with some Israelis asked to leave their taxis and others asked to show their passports to prove their citizenship.

After groups of young people attacked supporters in what Amsterdam’s mayor described as “hit and run” incidents on Friday, police opened a thorough investigation. The attacks were reportedly sparked by demands on social media to target Israelis. More than 60 individuals were taken into custody, and five injured, The Associated Press reports.
