Germany’s conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is facing criticism over its election video, titled “Germany is moving forward again.” The video features not only its leader and challenger to incumbent Chancellor Friedrich Merz but also includes Danish landscapes and American citizens as extras, according to German FOCUS Online.

A lake in Denmark is prominently displayed in the video, with the image originally sourced from a Danish real estate website. Additionally, a scene featuring a blond boy playing on the grass was filmed in Denmark, while the child wearing large glasses and a woman with a moon tattoo are both Americans.

The CDU has labeled the incident a mistake, explaining that the information regarding the images did not include details about their origins.

According to NPR, Brandenburg chairman of the AFD, Rene Springer, wrote a statement that said, quote, “just like in the United States, decreasing levels of public safety in Germany also goes hand-in-hand with increased immigration. So far, East Germany has been able to avoid the criminality of West German multiculturalism, but mass immigration is now bringing these problems to our region,” the statement says, adding, “for this reason, we want to show voters you can choose the Western way of too many foreigners or domestic security.”
