Amnesty International has published a report stating that Israel’s actions in Gaza and the statements of the authorities reveal its genocidal intent. The report noted that more than 42,000 civilians were killed in Israel’s attacks after October 7, 2023, and that these actions were carried out through indiscriminate and deliberate attacks. It was stated that the claims that Hamas was hiding among civilians were not credible, and called on the international community to take effective steps against Israel.

A report published by Amnesty International stated that Israel’s actions in Gaza and the statements of its senior officials reveal its genocidal intent and crime.

The organization’s report, titled “You Feel Like a Subhuman: Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza,” said Israel’s attacks, which began on October 7, 2023, are continuing in violation of international law and without accountability. The report is based on interviews with 212 people, satellite imagery, and other visual evidence.

The report noted that the crime of genocide does not require the total or partial destruction of a group, but that the intent is sufficient. It was reported that more than 42,000 civilians lost their lives during Israel’s attacks on Gaza and that most of these deaths were caused by deliberate or indiscriminate attacks.

The report also looked at Israel’s claims that Hamas was hiding among civilians and using human shields. Amnesty International stressed that these claims were not credible and that even if true, Israel still had an obligation to protect civilians under international law.

Amnesty International reported that it had investigated 15 airstrikes during the attacks on Gaza and found no evidence of military targets in any of them. It also said that Israel had created conditions unfit for human life by displacing 90 percent of the population of Gaza.

The report emphasized that hunger, malnutrition, and epidemic diseases have emerged in Gaza in the environment created by Israel and that this situation is slowly killing the people of Gaza.

Amnesty International Secretary General Agnes Callamard said Israel’s actions included acts prohibited by the Genocide Convention, adding: “This is genocide and it must stop now.”

Callamard said that countries that sell weapons to Israel have also violated their responsibilities to prevent genocide and have become collaborators, and called on Israel to “take immediate action to end Israel’s attacks on Palestinians in Gaza, especially the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom and other European Union countries, which are key arms dealers.”

The report assessed 102 statements made by Israeli government and military officials indicating genocidal intent and stated that 22 of these were direct evidence of genocidal intent. Callamard said, “Instead of expressing sorrow, states should take international action, even if the finding of genocide is disturbing to Israel’s allies.”

Agnès Callamard pointed out that the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was a source of hope, and called on governments to respect the decision.
