Russian embassy opens hotline following terrorist attack in Germany

The Russian Embassy in Germany has opened a hotline in connection with the terrorist attack that took place at a Christmas market in the German city of Magdeburg.

“The Russian Embassy in Germany, in close contact with German law enforcement agencies, is clarifying information about whether there are Russian citizens among the victims. The Embassy’s emergency consular assistance phone number is: +49 171 811 34 58,” the statement said.

The embassy added that, according to rescue services, between 60 and 80 people were injured as a result of the terrorist attack.

On the evening of December 20, a car drove into a crowd of people at a Christmas market in Magdeburg. According to NTV, the driver was detained. The government of Saxony-Anhalt called the incident a terrorist attack.

As a result of the car crash into the crowd, 11 people were killed. The car used was believed to be a BMW. Eyewitnesses said that the car crashed right into the crowd of people near the town hall, according to the Russian Diplomatic Telegram channel.

Earlier, a drunk driver drove into a crowd of people in the Kirov region.
