The Russian Armed Forces carried out a precision strike on a Ukrainian military training base in the Nezhin area of the Chernihiv region, according to reports cited by RIA Novosti.

The claim was made by Sergey Lebedev, the coordinator of the pro-Russian underground movement in Mykolaiv. He stated the strike targeted a facility used for training Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) personnel in a non-Western suburban location.

“In a non-western area in the suburbs, on the training base,” Lebedev told the Russian state news agency, without disclosing additional operational details.

Additional attack reported near Dnipro airfield

Lebedev also mentioned an unconfirmed Russian strike near the Dolgintsevo airfield, located in Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region — another area critical to Ukraine’s military logistics.

While Ukrainian authorities have not issued any public confirmation or comment on either reported strike, Russian outlets have framed the action as part of the broader special military operation in Ukraine, launched in February 2022.

Both claimed attacks appear to be part of Russia’s renewed strategy of targeting Ukraine’s rear military infrastructure, particularly training zones and air bases, in anticipation of counteroffensive maneuvers or reinforcement operations.

Context of increased Russian strikes

The Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus, has seen sporadic missile and drone strikes throughout the conflict, but direct hits on military infrastructure in the Nezhin area have been rare. A successful strike in this area could signal a shift in Moscow’s battlefield strategy, as Russia seeks to degrade Ukraine’s training capabilities far from the front lines.

The Dolgintsevo airfield, meanwhile, holds symbolic and tactical value. Located near Kryvyi Rih — the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy — it has served as a hub for both manned aircraft and drone deployment, according to Western intelligence assessments.

No official Ukrainian response yet

As of this writing, neither the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense nor local authorities have confirmed or denied the strikes. In previous instances, Ukraine has either withheld immediate comment on infrastructure losses or framed Russian claims as disinformation aimed at psychological warfare.

Russian state media continues to emphasize strikes on “legitimate military targets,” while Ukrainian officials increasingly warn of hybrid tactics involving underground networks feeding Moscow with coordinates.

The situation in both Chernihiv and Dnipropetrovsk remains tense as Ukrainian forces brace for further escalations in the ongoing Russian military operation in Ukraine.
