A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 affected large areas of Turkey and Syria and killed more than 3,400 people. Presumably, there are still many people under the rubble.
On both sides of the border, residents were woken up by tremors and ran outside on a cold, rainy and snowy night. Many buildings have piled up in a pile of ceilings, and aftershocks continue to rock the area.
Turkish authorities said at least 2,316 people died and more than 13,000 were injured.
At least 5,600 buildings collapsed, they said. More than 7,800 people have been rescued.
Syrian authorities reported 1,444 dead and around 3,500 injured.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said: “As rubble removal works in the earthquake zone continue, we don’t know how much the number of dead and injured will increase.”
