Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Russia is facing a demographic problem

War, pandemic, alcohol abuse and mass emigration have resulted in the past two years that Russia has lost two million more people than a normal year. The demographic problem facing Russia has worsened more and more during the reign of Vladimir Putin.

During this decade, life expectancy for 15-year-old Russian boys has dropped by five years and is now on par with Haiti, a country plagued by extreme poverty, natural disasters and a wave of violence from gangs. So says The Economist.

According to statistics, Russian men die six years earlier than men in Bangladesh and 18 years earlier than Japanese men.

The gender gap then becomes even greater when young men die in war or flee the country. It doesn’t help that the birth rate has never been lower than it is now. In April last year, the same number of children were born as when the Germans invaded the country in World War II.

According to Western experts, up to 200,000 Russian soldiers died or disappeared during the war in Ukraine. Between 500,000 and 1,000,000 million fled the country to avoid military service. For example, last year, 10% of the country’s IT experts, mostly young men, moved overseas. This is indicated in the figures of the Ministry of Information of the country.

Today there are 10 million more women than men in Russia.
