US intelligence officials have warned senators of the risks to the United States associated with the strengthening of relations between China and Russia, writes The New York Times.
“We don’t see them (the PRC and Russia – editor’s note) becoming allies, as is the case with the NATO allies,” said Director of National Intelligence Avril Haynes, while acknowledging the partnership of the two states.
Washington suggests that Beijing could provide Moscow with military assistance – ammunition and artillery shells for use in the special operation zone in Ukraine. The support comes in particular from China to weaken the United States.
“China will maintain diplomatic, defense, economic and technological cooperation with Russia to keep trying to challenge the United States even if it limits public support,” the annual threat assessment said.
Haynes described China as an “unprecedented challenge” for the United States economically, technologically, politically and militarily.
Earlier, a board member of the Institute of American Ideas, George O’Neill, said that the United States had lost its global dominance because of the conflict in Ukraine.
