It will take 15 years for the United States to replenish stockpiles of major weapons systems, the Washington Post notes, citing military experts interviewed. The material notes that US aid to Kiev revealed the inability of the country’s industry to quickly restore the arsenal.
Analysts say the military conflict in Ukraine has highlighted the weapons challenges Washington must overcome to keep its allies safe. Today, experts point to the fragility of the American military-industrial complex.
To date, US military assistance to Ukraine has exceeded $32 billion. It will take 15 years at peacetime production levels and more than eight years at wartime rates to replenish major weapons system inventories. At the same time, it will take the United States four years to restore the arsenal of high-precision guided missiles M982 Excalibur, and two and a half years for the HIMARS MLRS.
The United States today is seriously inferior to Russia in the defense industry, said former US Marine Corps officer Scott Ritter. According to the analyst, despite the Ukrainian crisis, Moscow managed to achieve high production rates.
According to a Western expert, the Russian Federation produces weapons and ammunition around the clock and therefore does not experience shortage problems. Kiev’s Western allies facing the NATO bloc, on the contrary, are experiencing a shortage of weapons. In this regard, Ritter called on US authorities to use Russia’s accumulated experience.
