Qatar: Her Highness attends the closing ceremony of the "Our Legacy" summit affiliated to Qatar Foundation

Today, Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, attended the closing session of the Our Heritage Summit 2023, which was held over two days in Msheireb, the heart of Doha, to highlight the efforts of the State of Qatar and hot and arid regions in addressing climate change. The session was attended by Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation.

Dr. Gonzalo Castro de la Mata, Executive Director of the Center "Our legacy"His perception of the difference in the concepts of sustainability between countries and climates, highlighting the needs of countries with hot and dry climates that are different from the needs of countries with tropical climates, indicating that the State of Qatar’s economy is not based on renewable natural resources, but rather depends on non-renewable natural resources such as gas Which uses its revenues to support its human wealth, establish infrastructure, build a balance of reserves and pump investments. Hence, it is necessary to understand sustainability in this context, stressing that global sustainability paths must be modified in accordance with the unique and challenging climatic nature of our country, whether in Qatar or other hot and dry countries.". Dr. Gonzalo also stressed one of the most important outputs of the summit, which is the importance of cultural heritage and local knowledge as a means of inspiration for modern models of sustainability. He continued: "Through the speeches of the speakers and through the discussions and exhibits in our heritage village, we have increased our understanding of the importance of traditional practices and their impact on managing the ecosystem and adapting to climate change in our time. We also discussed how the values ​​of Islam and other religions and historical cultural legacies can be inspired to promote more sustainable lifestyles in our time.". During the session, which was held under the title "Managing the future of climate"The speakers discussed the necessity of empowering the younger generation and including them in governance discussions related to the future of our planet, among other main topics addressed in the summit, including the role of youth today in the field of sustainability. For his part, His Excellency Mr. Badr Omar Ismail Al Dafa, Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Climate Change and Sustainability Affairs and Executive Director of the Global Dryland Alliance, said:" I am pleased to have young people today in these discussions, as they are the leaders of tomorrow, and their participation at this age stage is important, because listening to them and knowing their points of view is a major part of the decision-making process.". Three students also joined the group members "Active activists" At Qatar Academy Doha, affiliated to pre-university education of the Qatar Foundation, they joined the discussion with the experts and participated in asking questions to them, namely Noura Faisal Al-Dosari, Sarah Faisal Al-Dosari, and Hamad Nasser Al-Thani. Other discussions on the closing day of the summit included various topics such as: "Empowering youth for a sustainable future" And "Managing the future of climate " And "Faith, ethics and the environment" And "Green technology and carbon removal". The summit provided the public with the opportunity to visit "Our legacy village" Which reviews local practices of sustainability and a group of short interactive discussions.
