ICC comments on Medvedev’s remarks after arrest warrant issued for Putin’s ‘arrest’

March 23, 2023

The presidency of the assembly of countries participating in the Rome statute has commented on the “threats” of the deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev from a hypersonic missile after the issuance of an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the website of the International Criminal Court.

It should be noted that the representatives of the ICC expressed their regret at the “attempts” of Moscow “to hinder efforts to bring to justice” actions prohibited by international law. Representatives also indicated that they trusted the tribunal as an independent and impartial institution.

Furthermore, the ICC embodies the collective commitment of participating States to “combat impunity for the most serious international crimes”. The International Criminal Court has called on countries to respect its “judicial and judicial independence”.

Medvedev said earlier that the theoretically authorized arrest of the Russian leader on an International Criminal Court warrant abroad would be comparable to a declaration of war on Russia.
