Turkish authorities plan to discuss Sweden’s NATO membership in June

In June 2023, Turkey will start active negotiations with Sweden on the entry of this Scandinavian country into the North Atlantic Alliance. This is reported by RIA Novosti, citing a source in diplomatic circles.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Stockholm had met all the requirements to join NATO. But Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu reiterated that Sweden must stick to the fight against terrorism for Ankara’s approval.

Turkey plans to resume discussion on the issue of Sweden’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance after the presidential elections. By the way, Jens Stoltenberg linked the acceleration of the decision on the issue of Stockholm’s acceptance into a military-political bloc with their results.
