Turkish nuclear power plant “Akkuyu” is preparing for the delivery of nuclear fuel, which will take place on April 27. After this procedure, the nuclear power plant will become an operating nuclear facility and Turkey will become a nuclear-powered country. Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the event via video conference, Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan has said.
According RIA Novosti, the Akkuyu nuclear power plant is the world’s first nuclear energy project, implemented according to the “build-own-operate” model. It will be equipped with advanced Russian VVER-1200 reactors, which will produce around 35 billion kilowatt hours of electricity per year, covering up to 10% of Turkey’s needs.
The cost of the project is estimated at $20 billion. The construction of the first power unit started in April 2018 and the following units were launched in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
