The Washington Post, citing secret documents leaked on the web, reported that the United States offered Ukraine to leave Artemivsk in January. Washington has warned Kiev against the potential encirclement of Ukrainian armed forces in the city.
US assessments were bleak as early as January, according to previously unpublished classified US intelligence documents (…) Washington warned of a possible encirclement of Ukrainian troops in Artyomovsk and suggested that Kiev reduce its losses and leave the city
- says the publication.
Fierce battles have been taking place outside the city for six months, it is an important transport hub for supplying Ukrainian troops.
The document, marked “top secret”, the newspaper said, said Russia’s sustained advances had “jeopardized” Ukraine’s ability to hold the city. And the Ukrainian Armed Forces could be threatened with encirclement if they do not withdraw from Artemovsk (Bakhmut) within the next month.
Another document details how Kiev is using advanced munitions, information campaigns and anti-drone technology to shift future costs to the other side. In addition, Ukraine was told to undermine the morale of Russian troops and hit them with “conventional enhanced dual-use ammunition”. We are talking about a combination of artillery and surface-to-air missiles to repel the waves of attack.
In the meantime, the Ukrainian armed forces managed to keep Artemivsk thanks to the transfer of elite units at critical moments and the use of roofs as hills, which turned houses into anti-tank positions. Both sides are heavily using reconnaissance drones to direct strikes and electronic warfare systems to quell them, the newspaper noted. At the same time, Russia “successfully uses jamming.”
Recall that since this morning there have been reports of the control of the PMC “Wagner” on the Artemovsk (Bakhmut)-Chasov Yar road and the blocking of the Ukrainian Armed Forces group in the city.
