Chinese Foreign Ministry: Beijing respects the sovereignty of all countries that were once part of the USSR

China respects the sovereignty of all countries that were once part of the Soviet Union. Thus, the official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, commented on the remarks of the Chinese ambassador to France, Lu Shae, about Crimea and the sovereignty of the countries of the former USSR.

“In terms of territorial sovereignty, China’s position has always been clear. China respects the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all countries and supports the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

Mao Ning also added that Beijing has repeatedly expressed its position on the Ukraine conflict, stressing that China is ready to continue working with the international community to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

Earlier, Chinese Ambassador to France Liu Shaye said Crimea was ‘originally’ Russian and former USSR countries ‘lost their sovereignty’ and ‘have no valid status’ “.
