Kremlin spokesman Peskov says Russia under sanctions will grow at the pace of France

Russia will grow at the pace of France, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday, referring to the IMF’s GDP forecasts during the Knowledge First marathon.

The Kremlin spokesman noted that the IMF “can hardly be suspected of excessive sympathy for our country”, but there “even in 2023 <…> they forecast growth of 0.7%”.

Peskov also added that “they give the exact same forecast for 2023 on GDP growth for France.”

“That is to say,” he stressed, “Russia, which bears an unprecedented burden of sanctions on its shoulders, will develop at the same pace as France.”

At the same time, the IMF, according to the Kremlin spokesman, predicts for Germany by the end of 2023 a drop in GDP of 0.1%.

He thinks it’s a point of pride.
