Liu Qianchao, head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC), with activists of the ruling coalition led by Minister of State for Power and Energy D.V. Chanak, Chairman of the Sri Lankan People’s Front Party Youth League, in Beijing on April 25 met the delegation. During this, the two sides exchanged views on issues such as exchanges between the Chinese and Sri Lankan parties, the country’s governance experience, and the promotion of healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.

Liu Qianqiao said that the friendship between China and Sri Lanka has a long history and a strong foundation. Both countries stick to inheriting and carrying forward the spirit of the “Rice Rubber Agreement”. At the same time, the two countries have established a model of mutual respect, equal treatment, mutual benefit and win-win between large and small countries. Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative. China has been comprehensively promoting Chinese-style modernization with high-quality development, which will bring more development opportunities to various countries in the world, including Sri Lanka. At present, China and Sri Lanka are working together to promote the construction of the “Belt and Road”, which will bring more benefits to the people of both countries. China appreciates Sri Lanka’s firm adherence to the One-China policy, and will continue to firmly support Sri Lanka’s efforts to safeguard national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. At the same time, China is willing to play a positive role in helping Sri Lanka get out of economic difficulties as soon as possible.

In the meeting, Chanak said that China is a great friend of Sri Lanka, and Sri Lanka attaches great importance to the development of China-Sri Lanka relations. President Xi Jinping has timely introduced the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, which has guided countries around the world to unite and cooperate to jointly face challenges. Currently Sri Lanka is slowly recovering from the economic crisis, various political parties are keen to further learn from the Chinese Communist Party’s experience in governing the country, and cooperation in various fields between the two countries under the framework of the “Belt and Road”. We wish to promote cooperation, so as to play a positive role in accelerating the restoration of Sri Lanka and inject more driving force into the continuous development of bilateral relations.
