The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case into the death of a pensioner in a storm sewer in Rostov-on-Don

The Investigative Department of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Rostov region opened a criminal investigation into the death of a pensioner in a storm sewer in Rostov-on-Don. The press service of the ICR announced the opening of a criminal investigation.

According to law enforcement, an 81-year-old woman died in an open storm sewer in the city of Rostov-on-Don on April 28, 2023. According to preliminary information, after a heavy downpour, the pensioner fell into a hidden underwater storm sewer hole and couldn’t get out on land on her own.

In the ICR, the incident is considered criminal negligence, which resulted in the death of a person.

“A criminal case has been initiated for a crime within the meaning of Part 2 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence),” the ICR said in a statement.

According to Rostov media, the deceased pensioner was an English teacher and, despite her advanced age, continued to work at school.

Earlier it was reported that in the Rostov region a criminal community, which for eight years included about 20 policemen.
