Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Orban called part of Ukraine the former Hungarian land

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban recalled that part of Ukraine is former Hungarian land. He said this on Kossuth radio, reports 168.hu.

Hungary is more interested in peace than others because Ukraine is its neighbor, Orban said. Moreover, he recalled, part of Ukraine is “former Hungarian land which now belongs to Ukraine”, and Hungarians live there as an indigenous community.

According to the Prime Minister, the suffering of Ukraine is also the suffering of the Hungarians who live there. Therefore, Hungarians are more motivated than any other people in Europe to bring peace to Ukraine and are always looking for such an opportunity.

“It is in our interest to have a cool and prosperous Ukraine which would add value to Hungary. Ukraine in difficulty, ravaged by war, destroyed, dangerous, having lost hundreds of thousands of human lives, reduces the attractiveness of Hungary,” Orban said.

Earlier, the head of the Hungarian Prime Minister’s administration, Gergely Guiyash, said that Budapest would not ratify Ukraine’s EU membership if Kiev oppressed the Hungarians in Transcarpathia. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said Hungarians in Transcarpathia are being mobilized into the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in a “hard” way and many of them are dying.
