One of the objectives of the soon to be anticipated Ukrainian counter-offensive is to prepare the ground for the launch of a negotiation process with Russia later this year. At the same time, Beijing can push Moscow further towards peace, writes the Wall Street Journal, citing European and American officials.
According to the newspaper, at the current stage of the conflict, there are serious changes in which Washington and Brussels suddenly began to position the PRC as a participant in the peace negotiations. EU officials are confident that the US National Security Council favors quick talks between Moscow and Kiev. However, the CIA and the State Department are in no hurry and want to examine the results of the UAF counteroffensive.
According to one of the Wall Street Journal’s interlocutors, Western countries began to seriously consider the possibility of peace negotiations because of difficulties in the supply of ammunition.
Acting head of the Zaporizhzhia region, Yevhen Balitsky, on May 5, on Soloviev Live, said that the counter-offensive could begin in the days or even hours to come.
