At the moment, Georgia has not issued permission for direct flights with Russia, as it has not yet received relevant notifications from the Russian side. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Mariam Kvrivishvili.
“It is important to note that up to one million Georgian citizens live in the Russian Federation, and this decision will facilitate their travel to Georgia, their connection with their homeland and, of course, allow them to connect more easily with the members of their family. ,” she says.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin lifted the ban on flights to Georgia for domestic airlines and also canceled the visa regime for Georgian citizens from May 15.
In response to the Russian Federation’s decision, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili called for a meeting of the Security Council and to consider the issue of introducing three-month visas for Russians.
