Turkey bans voters from entering voting booths with phones

Voters casting their ballots in Turkey’s general election on Sunday are barred from entering voting booths with mobile phones and cameras. This is reported by local edition Hürriyet.

It should be noted that violation of this requirement is punishable by a fine. It is recommended that communication devices, as well as photo and video equipment, be returned to the polling station or left at home. Also, voters should not put anything other than completed ballots in the ballot envelope or the vote will be considered void.

Voting in Turkey’s presidential and parliamentary elections began at 8 a.m. on Sunday. Incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, his main opposition opponent Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and ATA Alliance candidate Sinan Ogan are vying for the post of Turkish leader.
