Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged citizens not to leave the polls until the official results of the May 14 election are announced. He wrote about it on Twitter.
The Turkish leader noted that the vote took place in the form of a “great celebration of democracy in peace and quiet”. This, he said, expresses Turkey’s “democratic maturity”.
Erdogan called the premature attempts to declare the results “a usurpation of the will of the people”. The counting of votes is still ongoing, he said.
“I ask all participants in the process and colleagues to stay at the polls, no matter what, until the results are officially announced,” he wrote.
At this time, Recep Tayyip Erdogan collects 49.94% of the vote. In second place, the leader of the united opposition, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, with 44.30% of the vote. Opened 92.70% of the ballot boxes. If none of the candidates obtains 50% of the votes, the country will go to the second round.
