The leaders of the G7 countries at the upcoming Japanese summit in Hiroshima intend to announce tougher sanctions against the energy sector of the Russian Federation. According to Reuters, new measures will also be announced to prevent the circumvention of anti-Russian restrictions and to restrict exports.
The agency specifies that the new restrictive measures will be introduced mainly to prevent “the circumvention of sanctions involving third countries”. In addition, their influence will be aimed at causing damage to the Russian energy sector and creating the conditions to “restrict the trade that supports the Russian armed forces”.
The material notes that U.S. officials are awaiting the Group of Seven’s announcement on changes to export rules to the Russian Federation. The authors of the article attribute this to the fact that Washington had previously “seeked the consent of G7 members to change the approach to sanctions”.
Previously, the Financial Times newspaper published a publication stating the intention of the G7 and the European Union, as part of the 11th package of anti-Russian measures, to ban the import of gas pipelines from Russia on certain routes, the supply of which has been almost completely cut off.
