The subject of consular access to American journalist from the Wall Street Journal Evan Gershkovich, currently under arrest, is politicized by Washington. This opinion was expressed by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
“There’s a lot of noise around this and a lot of attempts on the American side to politicize this story,” the diplomat was quoted as saying. RIA Novosti.
Gershkovich was detained in Yekaterinburg on suspicion of spying for the US government. According to the FSB, he collected information about the enterprise from the military-industrial complex.
The journalist was arrested for two months. US Ambassador Lynn Tracy visited Gershkovich at the Lefortovo detention center in Moscow. Afterwards, she reported that the American was healthy and in good spirits.
