A virus hits European livestock, is it transmitted to humans?

– Published on:

In the latest serious indications in this context, cases of epidemic haemorrhagic disease, which can be fatal for livestock, have been recorded for the first time in Europe, with the arrival of midge-like insects responsible for its transmission, caused by climate change, according to the French Health Agency “Ansis”.

The first cases of this viral disease not transmissible to humans were detected in Europe in the fall of 2022 on the Italian island of Sardinia, then on the island of Sicily, then other epidemiological foci appeared in the south from Spain.

Scientists warn

European scientists and experts warn that the disease, which could not even have been imagined to arrive in Europe years ago, has become a reality due to climate change, which allows infected midges to survive in the European environment today.

This deadly disease causes livestock to suffer from fever, loss of appetite, lameness and shortness of breath, and is sometimes fatal.

Environmental experts warn that the establishment of these midges in large areas of the world could lead to the future spread of this epidemic among humans, not just livestock, through similar or mutated insect species. .

The relationship between disease and climate change

Academic and environmental expert Ayman Haitham Qaddouri says in an interview with Sky News Arabia:

The effects of climate change are not limited to the disruption of natural phenomena and the disruption of their usual patterns, such as high temperatures, drought, receding fresh water, melting ice, lack of precipitation in a particular area and its abundance in other areas. . Any turbulent negative climatic phenomenon has consequences that can be more dangerous than the phenomenon that causes it, and this is what we see in Europe, especially in central and southern Europe in Italy, France and Spain, because these countries are the most affected by the accelerating process of climate change, and this is what the world witnessed last summer An unprecedented increase in temperatures that has not been recorded in the records since the beginning of the recording of climatic data, and the spread of the fires and the drought which hit the rivers and lakes of these countries. This leads to disastrous repercussions, such as the spread of midges, which clearly proves that the river environment in Italy, which recorded this type of insect for the first time, followed by France, suffered an ecosystem collapse and the entry of non-endemic insect species known as invasive or environmentally invasive.

What are gnats?

Small flies, or as they are called gnats, are insects that were first discovered in America in 1955, and they have since spread to Central and South America and other parts of the world, where they spread following the transformation of the river environment into a shallow environment with slow-moving water containing mud rich in organic matter (remains of dead plants and animals, animal excrement), and this is what make the environment of the Po in Italy and the Loire in France reached in 2022.

endangered areas

Areas likely to be invaded by these insects include southern Spain, Portugal and southern Germany, as well as their continued establishment in Italy and France. the species evolved from biting midges (sandflies).

environmental pollution tax

For all this, the world unfortunately pays the price of not stopping the series of suicides it practices through EVAL by destroying nature and polluting the environment.
