“It all smells bad.” What Military Correspondents, Pro-War Bloggers and Parliamentarians Are Saying About the ‘Grains Deal’ Extension

– Published on:

On May 17, Russia and Turkey announced the extension of the “grain agreement” for two months. Moscow hopes that the problems in the implementation of the agreements will be eliminated, said Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya. What war correspondents, pro-war bloggers and Russian parliamentarians think about it can be found in Russian media’s material.

Yuri Kotenok, war correspondent for Russian media

“I am extremely negative about any agreement with the enemy during the period of hostilities, when our wars are dying, when there is a direct threat to the existence of the Russian Federation, when the enemy has identified targets specific realities to destroy Russia, to bring it to its knees, to deprive it of subjectivity and, in general, of identity, of the right to exist in this world.

These transactions, which are carried out with Turkish partners – in quotes – partners, with some other “partners”, in my opinion, among a number of bad ones. This is my personal opinion. I’m not talking about betrayal, although that’s often the point of view these days, but it all smells bad.

I understand that there is politeness, there is diplomacy, there is the defense of the interests of the State on the international scene, but when the existence of the Russian people and the other ethnic groups that inhabit the Russian Federation is at stake, but above all the State of the constituent Russian people, while war is effectively declared on it, I consider that the extension of various agreements with the enemy is inappropriate and not in accordance with our fundamental interests in this struggle.

Andrey Rubtsov/TASS

The Grain Deal has been extended for two months. So said “a friend of two friends” Erdogan. Who would doubt that our amoebas are “folded” again? Not me, at least…”

“Friend Rejep said that after the negotiations, the ‘grains agreement’ would be extended for another two months. Erdogan thanked Putin for accepting the Turkish proposals.

Clearly, the main beneficiary of the deal is Erdogan, who is using it in the run-off election campaign. Russia is de facto backing Erdogan here amid Kılıçdaroğlu’s accusations of Russia (who he says is meddling in Turkish elections) and Erdoğan (who bows to Russia and scratches at the Russian door).

Of course, Erdogan intends to sit on two chairs and further – on the one hand, Turkish weapons are supplied to Ukraine, on the other hand, Turkey continues to supply gray imports to Russia and does not allow NATO ships in the Black Sea, in fact, removing geshefts on both sides. .

“When we say Russia’s demands are not met, of course we mean Western partners, not (Turkish President Recep Tayyip) Erdogan.

The West is now ready to destroy many useful international projects, even to act by appropriating these products intended for the countries of the African continent which need food. <…>

Russia has repeatedly said it will not participate in the deal if its terms are not met. As long as the tension persists. It is hard to expect Western negotiators to radically change their position and conform to our country’s demands. Although, of course, I want to hope for the best.

“My relationship is very controversial. The situation is of course complex. Russia should establish long-term partnerships with countries that need agricultural resources, regardless of where in the world they grew up. <…>

But in any case, I believe that any procedure of this kind should have a countermovement. At a minimum, if we are the guarantor of food safety, it is necessary that, for example, the rules of the WHO concerning the availability of any medicine for Russian patients are respected in the same way.

Andrey Klimov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council International Affairs Committee

“You can’t always meet everyone halfway without getting any benefit. If the extension took place this time, the chances that the agreement could be extended again later without complying with the conditions of the Russian side are close to zero. Because for the Russian side, the agreements must be respected to the same extent as for the rest of the participants in the process.

“If this agreement absolutely did not correspond to the interests of Russia, we would not extend it. Of course, we would like to get more from her, and the grain was also provided free of charge by Russia, especially to countries in dire need of it. But all things being equal, we chose the lesser of the evils.
