The US Embassy in Moscow’s request for a consular visit to WSJ reporter Anthony Gershkovich, arrested for espionage, was again denied. This is reported by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“The request from the US Embassy in Moscow for a consular visit to journalist Anthony Gershkovich arrested for espionage is once again denied,” the message read.
The decision was taken in response to the refusal to issue visas to Russian journalists from Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s pool, who were unable to travel to New York to accompany his visit under the Russian Presidency of the Council UN security.
“It is high time Washington learned that not a single hostile attack on Russia will remain without a severe response,” the Foreign Ministry said.
Russia also announced on May 19 that it was closing the entry of 500 Americans into the country in response to US sanctions.
