UK bans imports of diamonds, copper, aluminum and nickel from Russia

– Published on:

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced a ban on supplying Russian diamonds to the UK, as well as copper, aluminum and nickel of Russian origin. The sanctions include a $4 billion freeze on the diamond export market, Sky News reported.

London is also imposing sanctions on 86 other individuals and companies in the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation. The restrictions will affect people associated with major sources of income in areas such as energy, metals and shipping, according to the report.

A spokesman for the prime minister said the government expects all G7 partners to announce the sanctions over the weekend. Earlier it was reported that during the summit, the United States intends to announce a new anti-Russian sanctions package, which will include around 300 Russian companies, ships and planes.
