Meta* fined 1.2 billion euros in Ireland

Meta Platforms* (recognized as an extremist organization and banned in Russia), which owns popular social networks, was fined in Ireland.

The national data protection regulator fined the American company 1.2 billion euros. An unprecedented fine has been imposed for the transfer of personal data from the EU to the United States.

According RIA Novosti, the metafine has become the most important in the history of administrative sanctions in the EU in the field of personal data legislation. The previous record of 746 million euros was held by Amazon and has been maintained since 2021.

Irish authorities have ordered Meta* to stop transferring user data from the EU to the US within five months.

Earlier it was reported that the head of the Meta * Corporation, Mark Zuckerberg, leads the TOP billionaires in terms of wealth growth: since the beginning of 2023, he has become richer by 44.3 billion dollars.

*Activities of MetaPlatforms Inc. on the implementation of social networks Facebook and Instagram is recognized as extremist and prohibited in the territory of the Russian Federation.
