Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning told a press briefing that the cause of the conflict in Ukraine was large-scale outbursts of contradictions in European security management.
“The Ukraine crisis is essentially a tragedy that could have been avoided,” she said.
Mao Ning pointed out that the Chinese side determined its position on Ukraine based on the essence of the crisis. Beijing has always stood for peace and dialogue, she added.
According to the diplomat, China, together with the international community, is ready to continue to play a constructive role in promoting a political resolution of the Ukrainian conflict.
Earlier, Chinese Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui assessed the state of the conflict in Ukraine during a meeting with German Foreign Ministry State Secretary Andreas Michaelis in Berlin.
