China’s national water network construction plan outline was formally released on May 25. In which a top-level design has been prepared for the layout, structure, function and system integration of China’s national water network. The Chinese National Water Network is a comprehensive system based on natural rivers and lakes through smart control, integrating functions such as allocation of water resources, flood control and disaster prevention, and protection of water ecosystems.
The Plan Framework calls for expediting the construction of the National Water Network. China will scientifically promote the planning and construction of several major diversion and drainage projects based on the country’s key strategy, build green ecological corridors along important rivers, accelerate the construction of the main skeleton and main arteries of the national water network .
The National Water Network plays an important role in solving three major problems related to water resources. First, the uneven distribution of water resources in time and space is resolved, and spatial balance is achieved over a wider range. Second, the protection of the ecological environment and green development have been achieved. And third, effectively prevent disasters such as flood and drought, and build a national security barrier with high standards.
