Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy admitted that the army was forced to retreat from Avdiivka so that the fighters would not be surrounded. TASS reports this .

“The decision is correct. In order to avoid being surrounded, a decision was made to retreat to other lines,” the Ukrainian leader noted.

He also said that this decision of Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky was logical.

According to him, since October last year, soldiers of the Ukrainian army have been on the defensive.

Earlier, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, said that he decided to withdraw army units from Avdiivka in order to save the fighters. This decision was also influenced by the current operational situation in the city.
