Polish government cybersecurity spokesman Janusz Cieszynski on Wednesday accused Russia of a cyberattack on the official website used by Polish residents to file tax returns.
The cyberattack happened on Tuesday morning. Then the country’s finance ministry informed the Polish News Agency (PAP) that the site was blocked due to a technical error. The site is now back up and running normally.“The Russians are responsible for yesterday’s attack, that should be clear. We have information that makes it highly probable that this was a planned action,” Cieszynski said in an interview with Polish television channel Polsat News.
According to Tseshinskiy, hackers linked to Russian special services are behind the cyberattack. The Polish site was hacked amid ongoing high tensions between Warsaw and Moscow over Russia’s war against Ukraine.According to Polish authorities, following a cyber attack, access to the tax site was blocked and users were denied service, but no taxpayer data was disclosed. Tseshinsky pointed out that the hackers failed to open the data security feature.
