HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim stressed the importance of the role played by the State of Qatar in supporting the least developed countries, stressing that Qatar is an active strategic partner in the international community, as it was keen to host important United Nations conferences that are concerned with supporting poor countries. In his speech at the opening session of the Parliamentary Forum on the Least Developed Countries, held on the sidelines of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, which kicks off in Doha tomorrow (Sunday), His Excellency explained that this support comes from the affirmation of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Second Emir of the country "May God protect him and protect him"In all economic forums, the poor countries should not be left to face the issue of extreme poverty on their own. In his speech, His Excellency referred to the adoption of the Doha Action Program for the Least Developed Countries for the period 2022-2031, under the title (challenges and opportunities related to human rights), during the first part of the conference that Qatar held at the United Nations headquarters in New York in March of last year. His Excellency noted that this would help these countries to face the challenges resulting from a pandemic "COVID-19", as well as economic crises and climate change. In his speech, HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim noted the State of Qatar’s keenness to support various countries and humanitarian and development organizations, adding that "Qatar is one of the largest donors and supporters of the least developed countries, as the value of humanitarian and development assistance provided by the state in the past year through "Qatar Development Fund" The US $ 700 million, as this assistance contributed to the implementation of projects and programs for a number of United Nations organizations to support the least developed countries.". Before the forum, His Excellency reviewed the efforts of the State of Qatar and its contributions in supporting brotherly and friendly countries, providing health care, education and relief projects, supporting development efforts and climate change projects, in addition to its great efforts in supporting countries to mitigate the effects of the pandemic. "COVID-19"Its assistance through the Qatar Fund for Development exceeded $140 million.

HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim stated that the State of Qatar’s efforts and contributions to supporting and developing poor and needy communities and least developed countries, empowering people and building their capacities, comes from its commitment to supporting development and relief programs and achieving a sustainable impact through aid in various parts of the world. With regard to the Parliamentary Forum on the Least Developed Countries, His Excellency affirmed that it comes in support of the contributions of parliamentarians around the world to the international efforts led by the United Nations to assist the least developed countries to get out of this classification. His Excellency praised the role of parliaments members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and their effective contributions to the meetings concerned with the revisions of the ten-year plans, as institutions of good governance, and their ability to secure the inclusion of many of their views in the basic substantive papers of government meetings for the benefit of the least developed countries, which is an affirmation of the role of parliaments. As a partner in supporting the least developed countries and its responsibility in monitoring the commitment of governments towards those countries. His Excellency the Speaker of the Shura Council looked forward to the forum presenting visions and perceptions that would help the least developed countries to diversify their economies, improve their productivity, increase investments in infrastructure, and the ability to face the risks of climate change, by strengthening parliamentary oversight of government performance, and the extent of commitment to rational government, And mobilizing international partnerships and providing the necessary development assistance, in a way that helps the least developed countries overcome the problem of poverty, build and strengthen the capacities of their people, and develop social, economic and environmental development in them. In a related context, His Excellency pointed out that the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, which comes in sensitive international and regional circumstances, will represent a platform for developing effective measures for the least developed countries that would enable those countries to overcome the economic, social and environmental challenges they face, and benefit from Of the enormous energies and human and natural resources available in abundance in it. His Excellency pointed out that the Doha Action Plan will contribute to charting a path that responds to the various challenges of the next decade, and enhances the ability of the least developed countries to address future challenges. His Excellency added, "We, as parliamentarians, individuals and organizations, have a great responsibility in implementing the Doha Action Plan, through enacting legislation, approving budgets, and performing the oversight role to ensure that commitments are implemented.". Concluding his speech, His Excellency Mr. Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Shura Council, expressed his thanks and appreciation for accepting the invitation and participating in this forum, once again welcoming the parliamentarians in the State of Qatar, wishing them success in coming up with recommendations that would appoint the stakeholders participating in the Fifth United Nations Conference. concerned with the least developed countries to issue recommendations and action plans to ensure the exit of all least developed countries from this provisional development classification.
