Moscow lodged a strong protest with Canada’s charge d’affaires in Russia

March 21, 2023

Chargé d’affaires ai of Canada in Russia, Brian Ebel, was strongly protested. This was reported to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

As specified, the diplomat was summoned to Smolenskaya Square the day before, March 20.

The protest was made in connection with Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly’s remarks about Ottawa’s intention to achieve “regime change” in our country through various methods – economic, political and diplomatic.

“Another Russophobic attack, still not disavowed by the Canadian side, will have the most serious consequences for bilateral relations,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

After Russia launched a special military operation to protect Donbass on February 24, 2022, a number of Western countries decided to impose sanctions against Moscow. In particular, Canada has actively adhered to economic restrictions.

So, at the end of February this year, Ottawa announced sanctions against 129 other individuals and 63 legal entities from the Russian Federation.
