The Department of Zakat Affairs announces the amount of Zakat al-Fitr

The Department of Zakat Affairs at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs called on the public to take the initiative to pay zakat al-Fitr for themselves and their dependents on time, pointing out that it is obligatory for Muslims, male or female, old or young. This came in a statement issued by the administration, in which it specified the amount of zakat al-Fitr for the month of Ramadan 1444 AH, equivalent to (15) Qatari riyals, and that it must be paid before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. Mr. Saad Omran Al-Kuwari, Director of the Zakat Affairs Department, said that the department is keen annually to determine the value of Zakat Al-Fitr after assigning a number of specialists at the Zakat Services Department to study the prices of rice and calculate the average prices to determine the actual value of Zakat Al-Fitr, indicating that the basic principle in Zakat Al-Fitr is to take it out as food from the majority. People’s food, which is rice, and its amount is in the Prophet’s Sa’a, 2.5 km, with the permission to take it out in cash at a value of (15) Qatari riyals. He referred to the legality of Zakat al-Fitr, recalling what Abdullah bin Omar – may God be pleased with them both – said: (The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, imposed Zakat al-Fitr, a measure of dates or a measure of barley, on the slave and free, male and female, young and old among Muslims) . Al-Kuwari explained that the wisdom behind the legality of this zakat is represented by what Ibn Abbas narrated – may God be pleased with them – that he said: (The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, imposed zakat al-Fitr as a purification for the fasting person from idle talk and obscenity, and as food for the poor). The Director of the Zakat Affairs Department urged members of the community to expedite their delivery to the Zakat Affairs Department, the official government agency concerned with collecting zakat in the State of Qatar, so that it can deliver it to the actual beneficiaries inside Qatar before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, indicating that those wishing to pay zakat al-Fitr can take out their zakat through offices and points. Collection of the Department of Zakat Affairs, which is spread across the country or through the Department’s website on the Internet.
