Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s visit to Havana has become symbolic, said the country’s ambassador to the Russian Federation, Julio Antonio Garmendia Peña, in an interview for Izvestia. The Essentials” on Channel Five.
The diplomat drew attention to the fact that the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry visited in the Latin American region those countries that are not subject to the dictates of the West. These countries also understand the arguments of the Russian side in international affairs, especially with regard to Ukraine.
“You know, I think Sergei Viktorovitch’s visit to our region is very significant, symbolic,” said Julio Antonio Garmendia Peña.
Sergey Lavrov visited Brazil, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba from April 17 to 21. In Havana, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry met with President Miguel Diaz-Canel and Raul Castro.
During this trip, in particular, there were reports of expanding cooperation with countries in the region, criticisms were leveled at the US sanctions policy and approaches to Washington facing the situation around Ukraine.
