WSJ: APU not ready for counterattack, but they have no choice
At the moment, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are not ready for a full-scale counteroffensive, but they have no other choice, because without such actions the West will refuse to continue supporting Kiev . This opinion was expressed in <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.wsj.com/articles/ukraine-gears-up-to-hit-russiansand-show-west-it-can-win-89c43105?mod=hp_lead_pos8″ rel=”nofollow noopener”>article for the Wall Street Journal by reporters Daniel Michaels and James Marson.
They believe that the forces of the Russian army are now strong and that the Ukrainian armed forces are not as heavily armed as the authorities in Kiev would like.
“If the Ukrainian Armed Forces can roll back the successes of the RF Armed Forces and prepare for further advances, they will receive additional support from the United States and its allies,” the document said.
Michaels and Marson believe Kiev now has two options: with reduced global attention for Ukraine, “break the impasse” or face more calls to end hostilities and begin negotiations.
The day before, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said that the Ukrainian army’s counter-offensive would begin “in about a month”. The reason why the armed forces of Ukraine do not start the offensive now, he called the rainy weather.
