Chinese Foreign Ministry representative Mao Ning said Beijing’s position on Crimea has not changed, China respects the sovereignty of all countries.
“China’s position on the relevant issue has not changed. On territorial sovereignty, China’s position has always been clear. China respects the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all countries and supports the purposes and principles of the UN Charter,” she said.
Mao Ning also stressed that the Chinese side is ready to continue working with the international community to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. According to her, some media misinterpret Beijing’s position on this issue and sow discord between China and related countries, so we must remain vigilant.
“After the collapse of the USSR, China was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with relevant countries,” the official said.
She said Beijing has always adhered to the principle of mutual respect and equal treatment, and developed bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation.
Earlier, Chinese Ambassador to France Liu Shaye said Crimea “originally belonged to Russia”, and in Soviet times “Khrushchev gave it to Ukraine”.
